Dr. William Gray Deserves a Medal for Bravery
Whatever small comfort this sentiment might provide to him, I, the Green Meanie, would like to send a heartfelt “Thank You” to Dr. William Gray for his extreme bravery in the face of vituperous opposition.
His rational voice has often been drowned out by the chanting and drums of the “consensus-scientists” who are on the global warming dole. But he continues to exhibit bravery above and beyond, when many of his colleagues have folded under the pressure or been outright destroyed and silenced by the political system within the university grant program.
A brief description of Dr. Gray’s impressive credentials is outlined on his faculty profile page at Colorado State University:
The Tropical Meteorology Project is headed by Colorado State University’s Dr. William Gray. Professor Gray has worked in the observational and theoretical aspects of tropical meteorological research for more than 40 years. Most of this effort has gone to the investigation of meso-scale tropical weather phenomena. He has specialized in the global aspects of tropical cyclones for his entire professional career. Dr Gray received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, Dept. of Geophysical Sciences in 1964. He has been with Colorado State University’s Dept. of Atmospheric Science since 1961, and has been a professor since 1974.
The Green Meanie cried tears of admiration for the rational mind, when I read his beautifully written contribution to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works Hearing Statements. See the Statement of Dr. William Gray
According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, officials at Colorado State University are trying to pressure Dr. Gray, preferring that he not have so much contact with the media:
Gray, an emeritus professor at CSU who has taught dozens of graduate students who populate the National Hurricane Center and other research institutions, has become increasingly vocal in saying the planet is warming due to natural causes.
“Bill Gray has come under a lot of fire for his views,” said Channel 11 meteorologist Neil Frank, a former director of the National Hurricane Center and a friend of Gray’s. “If, indeed, this is happening, it would be really sad that Colorado State is trying to rein in Bill Gray.”
The dean of CSU’s College of Engineering, which oversees atmospheric sciences, said she spoke with Gray about terminating media support for his forecasts solely because of the strain it placed on the college’s lone media staffer. “It really has nothing to do with his stand on global warming,” said the dean, Sandra Woods. “He’s a great faculty member.”
A professor of public relations at Boston University, Donald Wright, questioned why the university would want to pull back its support for Gray after he has published his forecasts for a quarter-century. The predictions are printed in newspapers around the U.S. and on the World Wide Web. “Given the national reputation that these reports have, you would think the university would want to continue to promote these forecasts,” Wright said.
Wikipedia has a biography page about Dr. Gray. If you look through the editing history, you can see that hundreds of “editors” have continuously been sabotaging this page, adding inflammatory viewpoints which are derogatory, and inserting quotes from blogs and news articles which criticize Dr. Gray. The Wikipedia article currently has a large tag on it, saying that some editor has taken offense that this biography page places “undue” weight on Dr. Gray’s point of view. Excuse me, it’s his bio, umm, I think it SHOULD present Dr. Gray’s point of view, umm, duh! The Green Meanie is shocked, appalled, mortified. Sigh.
Again, Kudos to Dr. William Gray, and I hope that this message I have written here will be copied and passed along many times, to help circumvent those who would prefer to silence his rational voice.
